About

ydnar + Leica

Hi, I’m Randy Reddig and this my portfolio. It’s a semi-structured collection of my professional—and other—work. To find out what I’m up to lately, or what I’m interested in, visit my blog.

About Me

I've been hacking on design and code for most of my life, with an occasional musical detour. My formative years were spent in Europe, and am lucky to have two parents with wanderlust and an appreciation for books. I live in San Francisco, I like going fast and spend as much time on two wheels as possible. I like racing in alleycats, riding my Ducati, deep powder and subway surfing.

I’m known in some circles as ydnar. I love being around smart and creative people. I also love Pantone 213, Helvetica, electro, molded plywood, em dashes and semicolons, sugar, caffeine, and fixing things.

If you see something here you like, I’m available for hire for short/medium term contract gigs.

About Shaderlab

At various times, this site has been a personal journal, a destination for level designers with textures, shaders, tutorials, screenshots, and examples for people hacking on first person shooters. It's been a dumping ground for music, photos, JavaScript hacks, Perl application frameworks, my resume, portfolio and other miscellany.

A bit of history: This site is almost ten years old, and this year I figured it would be a good idea to give it some structure. It's a work in progress—content is being added and refined more or less continuously. Recent additions appear at the bottom of each page.

Design

This site is typeset in Neue Helvetica, a slighly modified version of Helvetica with “more structurally unified set of weights and widths.” It is set on a 17px vertical baseline grid, with (mostly) 12px horizontal margins. Colors are almost entirely black & white, with the exception of the footer which is a favorite moss green.

Tag and article links have a “bokeh” effect applied via JavaScript and CSS.

Shaderlab is built using Movable Type 4.1 from Six Apart.
